Day 1-2
Anchorage
Arrive at Anchorage International Airport and transfer independently to your downtown hotel. As Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage offers fine restaurants, museums, shops, theatres, and an excellent music scene. The state’s largest museum, Anchorage Museum, is a Smithsonian Affiliate and celebrates Alaska Native cultures through presenting voices, stories, and cultural heritage pieces. The museum's Discovery Centre offers 5 distinct zones of exploration including an earthquake simulator and volcanic eruption demonstrations.
Day 3
Wilderness Express to Denali
Board the Wilderness Express in the early morning and depart to Denali. The luxury cars of the Wilderness Express offer a full-length curved glass dome that provides spectacular 360-degree views, a friendly host to point out highlights along the way as well as offering full bar service (at additional expense) and a 36-seater dining room on the lower level serving Alaska specialities (at additional expense). The cars also boast an outdoor viewing platform to fully immerse yourself in the sights & smells of Alaska.
Day 4
Denali National Park
One of the most popular ways to explore the six million acres of Denali National Park is to take one of the popular Tundra Wilderness tours into the park itself to see its wildlife up close and learn more about the park’s history. Rafting tours are also hugely popular in the area as one of the easiest ways to feel immersed in the wilderness, opt for a milder ride or go for a white-water trip for heart-pounding rapids.
Day 5
Wilderness Express to Fairbanks
Once again board the Wilderness Express in the early evening. The northbound four-hour journey will offer magnificent views and photo opportunities of the Nenana River, as well as Windy Bridge – a 215-foot-long highway bridge and the highest in Alaska, the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System at Clear Air Force Base as well as various gold mining districts.
Day 6
Fairbanks
Whilst visiting Fairbanks, why not head to the banks of the 100-mile Chena River that cuts through Fairbanks to join the paddle wheeler, Riverboat Discovery tour for a relaxing boat cruise of the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Included as part of the tour is a guided walking tour of Chena Village. Known as the 'Golden Heart City', there are plenty of ways to learn of the area’s rich goldrush history. From a visit to Pioneer Park to Gold Dredge 8. Those looking to learn about the state’s oil can join an Arctic Circle Air Adventure that will allow you to see the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
Day 7-8
Delta Junction
Collect your car prior to heading to Delta Junction. As an agricultural community be sure to taste the local produce at Highway’s End Farmer’s Market where you can sample fresh vegetables, local meat such as buffalo, caribou, and elk as well as plenty of jams and jellies. Located within an hour of town are 5 state recreation areas, as such, flightseeing tours and outdoor activities are hugely popular here.
Day 9
Tok
Tok is known as the ‘Sled Dog Capital of Alaska’ and many of its residents are involved in some way with dogs and dog mushing. It is also well known for being Alaska’s official welcoming community as the first major town across the Canadian border for Alaska Highway travellers. As a result, the Tok Mainstreet Visitors Centre features racks of brochures and information on the states endless activities and wildlife.
Day 10-12
Wrangell Mountains Wilderness Lodge
This family lodge is a warm home from home where visitors can enjoy authentic Alaskan hospitality in this beautiful national park setting. Located in the remote northern Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve the lodge offers fully plumbed guest cabins and yurts as well as locally sourced cuisine. The lodge allows for visitors to access the pristine wilderness of the park without the need to fly in making it truly accessible for all types of visitors.
Day 13
Glacier View
Glacier View is home to the picturesque Matanuska Glacier and as it’s only a 2-hour drive from Anchorage it is the perfect place to end your Alaskan adventure. Glacier flight sightseeing, ATV tours, hiking and river rafting are all on offer here and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the abundance of wildlife such as bears, moose and sheep.
Day 14
Fly Home
Make the 2-hour road trip back to Anchorage International Airport for your flight home.
