Halifax Downtown
Arrive in Halifax and transfer independently to your downtown hotel for the next three nights. Parks Canada administers five sites around Halifax that combined form the Halifax Defence Complex. During your first two days, we recommend you visit the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and the Prince of Wales Tower National Historic Site that are in town as well as the Georges Island National Historic Site and the Fort McNab National Historic Site that will require ferry access.

Halifax Metro
Today, pick up your car from downtown Halifax and visit the last site of the Halifax Defence Complex, the York Redoubt National Historic Site, which is only a 20-minute drive from downtown. We recommend you cross over to the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour and visit Dartmouth as well as the picturesque Eastern Passage. On your way, you can also visit the D’Anville’s Encampment National Historic Site to learn more about Acadian history.

Lunenburg
Leave Halifax and drive south to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg. En route we recommend you stop at the world-famous fishing village of Peggy’s Cove for iconic pictures of its lighthouse. Once in Lunenburg, walk around the old town and admire the city’s architecture as it’s considered to be the best surviving planned British colonial town in North America. You can also find nearby the Fort Sainte Marie de Grace National Historic Site.

Kejimkujik National Park
Today you will discover Kejimkujik National Park, which has two locations. Start by exploring the Kejimkujik National Park Seaside where you have trails available and the beach. Then head over to the rest of the park, which is located inland about one hour drive away. Take the time to explore its wilderness and learn about the Mi’kmaw culture. The park offers a variety of activities from hiking to stargazing as it’s Nova Scotia’s only Dark Sky Preserve.

Annapolis Royal
Continue to Annapolis Royal and make sure to stop at Fort Anne National Historic Site and the Charles Fort National Historic Site to learn more about settlers’ history. You will find nearby the Port-Royal National Historic Site where you can jump back in time and discover a reconstruction of one of the earliest European settlements in North America. You can also visit the Melanson Settlement National Historic Site to learn about Acadian settlers’ farming techniques.

Grand Pré
On your drive to Grand Pré you can stop at Bloody Creek National Historic Site where British forces and allied French and Mi'kmaq forces fought over the possession of Acadia. Grand-Pré National Historic Site is a monument to Acadian culture and deportation, where you can learn more about their history. You will also find the Fort Edward National Historic Site in nearby Windsor, which is North America’s oldest military blockhouse. Being in Nova Scotia’s wine country, make sure to indulge in a glass of wine.

Hopewell Cape
Today you will embark on a scenic drive around the Bay of Fundy. You will observe the world’s highest tides from different locations to get different landscapes and perspectives. Start your journey by visiting Burntcoat Head Park. Continue to Cape Chignecto Provincial Park driving through Truro and Parrsboro. Driving north, you will find the Joggins Fossil Cliffs & Centre before crossing the border over to New Brunswick. Explore Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park at sunset for magical views.

Fundy National Park
Make sure to check tides times and plan your day so you get to see the Hopewell Rocks at a different tide level from the day before. Spend the day exploring Fundy National Park, an outdoor sanctuary offering lots of hiking trails. We recommend you venture further and drive the scenic Fundy Trail Parkway for spectacular views of the bay until you reach St Martins where you will be able to spot sea caves shaped by the tides.

Kouchibouguac National Park
Head over to the eastern coast of New Brunswick where Kouchibouguac National Park is located and discover a park filled with rich forests, wetlands, estuaries, lagoons, and warm ocean beaches. Discover some of the best trails including the Bog Trail Head and its lookout tower and take advantage of the beach boardwalk to explore Kellys Beach. If you would like to learn more about the local fauna, jump on marine wildlife safari tour and admire the animal life in this region.

Prince Edward Island National Park
Head over to Prince Edward Island but first, make sure to drive to Shediac, the lobster capital of the world. Stay at the Dalvay by the Sea, a Queen Anne Revival-style estate, which is now a national historic site located in Prince Edward Island National Park. Whether you are drawn to the long sandy beaches backed with red cliffs, the historic streets of Charlottetown or a fan of the Anne of Green Gables books, Prince Edward Island will keep you busy during your stay.

Baddeck
Today you will ferry back to Nova Scotia and start your journey to Cape Breton Island. Reach Baddeck, your hub for the next couple of days and make sure not to miss out on the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site during your stay. Why not day trip to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site for an immersive experience of a reconstructed French colonial town.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park
The highlight of Cape Breton Island is the Cabot Trail, which we recommend you spend the full day discovering at your own pace. Plan your drive starting on the west side of the Island, we recommend you stop along its numerous hiking trails and lookout points, such as La Bloc Beach, the Skyline Trail, and the MacKenzie Mountain Look-off for stunning vistas. Stay overnight in Ingonish Beach, where you will find the nearby Cape Smokey Gondola for more breath-taking views.

Fly Home
Today you will head back to Halifax for your overnight flight home. You can either spend the morning in Cape Breton Highlands National Park or decide to visit other incredible areas of Nova Scotia. If you opt for the latter, we recommend driving south through the coastal roads of Eastern Shore and enjoy some pristine wilderness and white sand beaches for a final off-the-beaten-track adventure.
